This project proposes to benefit from the various emerging standards that follow the world-wide web deployment to construct a scalable and efficient platform for the automatic distribution and update of electronic documents. Especially, the project introduces the notion of 'Digital Contracts'. Traditional paper-based contracts have been used for centuries to enable commerce and to protect interested parties against infringements. In addition to those benefits in terms of simplicity of use, ease of manipulation, archiving, 'digital contracts' are innovative for they provide additional behavior capability, i.e. they can provide fulfillment processing for a whole range of IPR protection mechanisms, payment obligations, etc. The technology developed in the project will allow publishers and content owners to test and implement new business models for electronic commerce, such as superdistribution, where the customers themselves distribute the goods to other customers. |
